Rail Track Ballast is a suitable for track bedding, sub bases and drainage applications. Rail ballast serves several purposes, including distributing the load of the train, providing drainage, preventing vegetation growth, and maintaining track alignment and stability.

Rail Track Ballast should not be used as a driveway sub base. The absence of fines will prevent the desired level of compaction being achieved. Please use either Limestone Type 1 or Type 3 for driveway sub bases our recycled options are also suitable for this use such as our recycled MOT Type 1

The depth of rail ballast can vary, but it is typically in the range of 300-400mm. The depth is determined based on factors such as the type of ballast material, track usage, and engineering standards.

Rail Track Ballast is usually laid by excavator, such as a rail road excavator before being tamped and compacted with specialised tamping equipment to ensure it is packed tightly around the sleepers (ties)
