What does BS3882 mean?
The British Standard 3882 certification for topsoil has been laid out to ensure a consistently high-performance grade; a standard set out by the British Standards Institute. This standard is the revised version of 1994 originally set out.
BS3882 is measured on three factors: Soil Structure and Classification, Free-from Contamination and Fertility. BS3882 topsoil suppliers are also able to supply results of the soil analysis which includes the origin of the soil, the contamination parameters and written confirmation that the soil complies with the standard BS3882:2007.
All of our Mayo Stone Supplies Ltd soil contains BS3882 Soil for multi-purpose use, a great option for all gardening and landscaping applications.
This product can be purchased in bulk bags which contain approximately 850kg.

MAYO BS3882 10mm Soil for Laying Turf
If you’re looking to replace a tired old lawn, or even add some fresh new grass to an area in your garden, ask our team for turf – we’ll be happy to give you a quote. When it comes to laying Turf, we recommend adding a layer of fresh soil to the desired area. As our 10mm Soil undergoes a screening process, it should generally be quite loose, but you’ll still need to prepare and rake the soil well, removing any small pieces of debris.
Due to the soil fertility, it makes the perfect medium for establishing new roots in your freshly laid Turf.
Our soil delivers quality and consistency in situations where soil fertility is important. An ideal medium soil and or seeding, laying turf and flower beds, promoting healthy growth.
What is Screened Soil?
All the Soils that we sell directly from Mayo Stone Supplies Ltd are screened to different grades. Screening the soil is a very important process as it essentially separates larger pieces of debris from the soil. When you’re using soil as a planting medium, the last thing you want is to constantly find stones and sticks on your soil, so this process saves you a lot of time prepping the soil!
Commonly known as a ‘Scalping Screen,’ this piece of machinery works like a large sieve for recycled soils. The soil will go through a conveyor belt which has holes graded to different sizes. For this soil, the holes are only 10mm, meaning that anything that measures more than 10mm should be separated from the soil, leaving mainly pure soil that then gets stored ready for delivery across Manchester.
